"I met Børge Madsen at Kunstakademie Bad Reichenhall where we worked together for a whole week. His free and mainly big format works, which stands in the tradition of gestic expressionistic painting, were in their style individual and easy recognisable.
It impressed me how he was able to push forward his painting with perseverance and seriousness without losing his creativity and playfulness. His considerable experiences with painting shows that he is both a practician and have intellectual depth.
The big works of this quiet appearing Dane overwhelm quickly through their beauty of composition and rich coloring. His paintings have this incomparable ability to grab us emotionally and to give us visual suggestions of landscape associations.
As a man from the North with longings for the South he digs deeply into himself in order to bring out pictures of experimental joy and risk taking. Out of this process he produces exciting compositions of powerful, impulsive layered color-blocks and color-formations – often intersected with lines – creating weighty-drama and hidden lyricism. The paintings are witnessing sensitive hesitant attempts combined with enormous sense of colors and knowledge about form language, playing the rhythm between dark and light.
